Emma Jean Downing
Education was always important to Emma, so she furthered her studies by matriculating at Polk Community College earning an Associate of Arts degree, University of South Florida earning a Bachelor of Science degree and Nova Southeastern University earning a Master of Science degree.
Emma was a staunch member of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as the Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Intermediate Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School Director, Choir #3, and President of WIA for 8 years. She was also actively involved on the local, Progressive M&E Baptist State Convention and National Baptist Convention levels of ministry. Emma was a dedicated employee of the Polle County Public Schools for over 30 years counseling families and youth. She was currently serving as a School Counselor at Lake Alfred Polytech Academy.
She previously worked as a Youth Counselor for the Department of Juvenile Justice and the State of Florida as a Social Worker for the Department of Children and Families. She was so full of love for everyone she met; she never met a stranger and she was loved by many.
